Pittsburgh gains a Southern Tier
March 3, 2016

Southern Tier Brewing made an announcement today, confirming the rumors that they will be opening a satellite brewpub in the great city of Pittsburgh.

Why Pittsburgh? According to Phin DeMink (founder of Southern Tier):

“The team at STBC is excited for the opportunity to be a part of the craft beer scene in Pittsburgh. We’ve been here since 2005 and it’s become our second biggest market, so it just seemed natural to take that next step of laying roots in the city of Pittsburgh.  There are a lot of great brewers doing justice to their craft and we look forward to furthering the local beer culture through collaboration and education.  It is very important to us that we understand, respect, and reinforce the craft beer community in Pittsburgh. We will truly be in good company.”

Before our trip last year, I honestly didn’t know too much about Pittsburgh. After visiting, though, I can see why it’s an attractive location for their brewpub. It’s a fantastic smaller city with a delicious craft beer scene. We visited a few breweries, including Church Brew Works and Roundabout, and weren’t disappointed with anything we tasted.

Now that Southern Tier is opening up shop, though, we may have to take another craft beer road trip–especially since they mentioned having Pittsburgh-specific releases.
