Good Vibrations: Beers And Tunes For Your Summer
July 12, 2015

Hey beer drinkers,

The heat and humidity are here. The AC is set up and on high, the flip flops are out of storage and most importantly: the beers are ice cold.

As I sit outside in my tiny Astoria backyard with my pup, my Macbook, and my puddle of sweat, I decided to start my post with a little Beach Boys “Good Vibrations”. Obviously, when drinking in the summer, you need something that’s going to keep up with your tailgating, beaching, barbecuing, and listening.

Beer may be my true love, but music will always have a special place in my heart as I was in many awful cover bands with some very good friends and sang many o’ Queen and Rush songs in my car with my buddies driving all over Long Island.

This beer “playlist” is my official index of some top tier summer beers along with some awesome songs to listen to with each beer. Please note that this is not a ranking in anyway! For some extra fun, I’ve put this playlist on Spotify so feel free to subscribe and enjoy!

Dogfish Head Namaste (Jimmy Eat World – Lucky Denver Mint)

Quench your thirst with this white beer. Orange slices, lemongrass and coriander. Grab one and get in that hammock.

Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. Summer Ale (The Movielife – Ship To Shore)

Golden ale with honey. Not too sweet but extremely refreshing. Greenport Harbor recommends to pair this with softball and rooftop parties. They said it best.

Great South Bay Blonde Ambition (Incubus – Are You In?)
A sweet and fruity blonde ale. Highly crushable and highly recommended. Bring some on the boat and eat a ton of oysters. Don’t have a boat? Just eat some oysters! Don’t like seafood? Well, this beer rules in any situation.
Half Full Brewery Bright Ale (John Mayer – Heartbreak Warfare)
My favorite brewery in the great state of Connecticut will always have a special place in my heart. Grab some cans of this crisp blonde pale ale and hang out at your friend’s apartment in Astoria (come on over, we have beer and a grill!). You may end up coming up with your next goal in life.
Brooklyn Brewery Summer Ale (CHVRCHES – The Mother We Share)
This beer is a classic. A staple in the five boroughs, Long Island, and all over the East Coast. Whenever I get to enjoy the Mets losing at Citi Field, this beer is in my hand and helps with the pain (Mets fans, we have the worst luck, right?!)
Harpoon UFO White (Action Bronson – Easy Rider)
One of my all time favorites, regardless of the season. It was actually the first craft beer I had ever tasted (thanks Hometown Deli in Oneonta!) Sweet, wheat, and good to drink. Super orange-y. I drank a few of these at a 4th of July BBQ just last week with way too many ribs. Go the same route as I did.
21st Amendment Brewery Hell or High Watermelon (Head Automatica – Beating Heart Baby)
If somebody were to bring this awesome watermelon wheat beer to a BBQ, I would absolutely love them. Nico and Shaun know EXACTLY what I’m talking about 😉 Had about three too many of them last summer while rotating between cornhole, kanjam, and chasing my dog around.
Baxter Brewing Summer Swelter  (As Tall As Lions – Love, Love, Love)
Lemon, lime, lemongrass, and awesomeness. Have one with a lobster roll. You won’t regret it. Maybe even get more than Summer Swelter (hint: go buy a six pack).

Alright, my friends. Go out and enjoy the summer! Please keep in mind that there are probably five hundred other amazing summer beers out there and I suggest you try them all. In fact, if you have one that’s not on this list… please tell me so I can go and drink it!

I’ve been outside for too long. I need some air conditioning. And crab cakes.
